I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. As we embark on another exciting academic year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to each and every one of you. Whether you’re returning students or new faces, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our Okaloosa County family. Having been an educator for over two decades, I understand the importance of creating a nurturing and supportive environment for our students. As a parent myself, I share your hopes and dreams for our children’s success. Together, we can make this school year memorable and impactful.
For those who may not know me, my name is Marcus Chambers, and I have the privilege of serving as your Superintendent. My commitment to excellence in education drives me every day, and I am dedicated to ensuring that our schools provide the best possible learning experiences possible.
Our teachers and staff have been hard at work preparing for your return. We have high expectations for behavior, respect, and academic achievement. Let’s strive for excellence in everything we do. Remember, success is a team effort, and we’re all part of the same team! This year, we’re introducing exciting changes to our curriculum. Governor Ron DeSantis Presents $20,000 Awards to Five Florida Teacher of the Year Finalists
Governor Ron DeSantis recently recognized the five Florida 2025 Teacher of the Year finalists. Governor DeSantis presented each finalist with a $20,000 check. The winner, Jaime Suarez, was named the overall winner at the Teacher of the Year gala on Thursday, July 25. Suarez will receive additional awards, bringing her total award amount to $50,000.
The five finalists for the 2025 Florida Teacher of the Year were Samantha Nelson, Florida State University School; Jennifer Brown, Marion County; Jaime Suarez, Hernando County; Dr. Clayton Nylund, Hillsborough County; and Heather Stewart in Walton County.

1. Engaging Programs in Niceville: We meet monthly to offer programs that are both interesting and educational. These sessions are free and open to the public—no membership required!
2. Bird Walks throughout Okaloosa County: Experience the beauty of nature first-hand through our bird walks. We need more people to help plan and lead these walks, making them accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
3. Community Involvement: We participate in local festivals and events as an educational vendor.
4. Social Media and Outreach: We are looking for individuals to help create content for our social media platforms, design brochures and flyers, write press releases and keep our website updated and engaging.
5. Photographers Welcome: We love to showcase the work of local photographers on our Facebook page and website. Share your talent and help us spread the beauty of our local wildlife.
6. Annual Holiday Party in Destin: The December Holiday party is a highlight of the year, featuring a silent auction that serves as the annual fundraiser.
