February is Black History Month and Bishop Roy Edward Campbell, Jr., Homilist, invites all to the 43rd annual liturgical celebration commemorating Black History Month.

Presented by the Catholic African American Cultural Awareness Group of Okaloosa County, listen to the word of Jesus with an open heart on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church, 1028 White Point Rd. in Niceville. There will also be a musical concert by the Eglin Brotherhood Gospel Choir.

ECCAC Announces New Board Member
The Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC) recently announced the newest member of its Board of Directors, Shannon Amos.

Originally from Tennessee, Amos moved to the Florida Panhandle in 2005, where she has been a Destin resident with her husband and their age 10 daughter. They also have three adult children. Amos is currently a real estate agent with World Impact Real Estate. As well, she and her husband, Dr. Warren Amos, a radiation oncologist with Genesiscare, are in the real estate investment and rental arena with their two companies, Lullaby Properties and Lullaby Rentals, with Amos serving as the Managing Partner.

Prior to her real estate career, with her Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in speech-language pathology, Amos was the owner of Speech & Swallowing Services, LLC. Amos has been very involved in the community. She served on the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation (DCWAF) Board until 2021 and still serves as a DCWAF Trustee. Currently, she is an Impact 100 member, a 7F Foundation member and now a member of the ECCAC Board.

Emerald Coast Music Alliance is celebrating its 8th Annual Music Festival this January 2024. From January 8th – 19th, the ECMA will bring “Carnegie Hall” concert musicians to perform in schools, senior centers, not-for profit agencies, organizations that serve the disabled and more – at no charge! Artistic director and concert pianist Alon Goldstein is returning to perform along with Neo-Art Piano Duo; Regina Tanujaya and Matteo Generani, brass musicians Alan Morell and Claire Worsey, and special first-time guest musicians The Guy Mintus Jazz Trio – and more!

The Freeport Republicans January meeting will be Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 at the Hammock Bay Clubhouse, 1850 Great Hammock Bend in Freeport. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting at 6-7 p.m.

The Walton County Republican Executive Committee (WCREC) will meet Monday, January 15th, 2024. Upcoming meetings are February 19 and March 18. All meetings are held at the Hammock Bay Clubhouse, 1850 Great Hammock Bend in Freeport. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.; meeting 6-7 p.m. and open to registered Republicans in Walton County.

Freeport Breaks Ground on New Community Center!
Freeport will be getting a new community center! On Dec. 15, the city, along with city officials, county leaders and the public, broke ground behind City Hall on a new center. The former community center closed in 2019, but Freeport is growing exponentially and needs a place for folks to gather. The future center will be able to accommodate a variety of events, with blueprints that include a kitchen, stage and large event area. The estimated project cost is roughly $2.5 million with completion planned toward the of 2024.
