On Christmas Eve, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Ray Hamilton was killed in the line of duty while attempting to arrest a man suspected of domestic violence. Hamilton served as a Special Response Team (SRT) member with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
To honor the memory and sacrifice of Corporal Hamilton, and in accordance with a memorandum from the office of Gov. Ron DeSantis, Okaloosa County lowered the flags to half-staff at County-maintained buildings from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Corporal Hamilton and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office during this difficult time,” says Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners Chairman-elect Trey Goodwin. “He will always be remembered for his service and sacrifice to the citizens of Okaloosa County.”
Corporal Hamilton, a five-year veteran with the agency, had received two lifesaving awards and been commended for his excellence.
