CHS Students Inducted as Take Stock in Children Scholars
Northwest Florida State College and the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation recently honored Collegiate High School students during the Take Stock in Children Student Awards Ceremony.
The Take Stock in Children program serves deserving, low-income youth throughout Florida, helping them succeed in life by providing mentors, student advocates, case managers and early intervention. Students who maintain the terms of the program’s contract are awarded tuition scholarships to the post-secondary institutions of their choice.
Nyla Griffin, Grace Michelli and Ingrid Mueller were inducted as Take Stock in Children Scholars this year.
NWFSC President Appointed to the Southern Regional Education Board
Dr. Devin Stephenson was appointed as a Southern Regional Education Board member by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The Southern Regional Education Board strives to improve education by providing policymakers with reliable data to inform sound policies, collaborating with states to share resources, and serving educators by providing the training needed to help prepare students for their futures.
“I am grateful to Governor Ron DeSantis for the opportunity to serve on the Southern Regional Education Board,” said Dr. Stephenson. “I look forward to working alongside fellow educators and lawmakers as we continue to transform the educational opportunities in our region and provide our teachers and students with the resources they need to succeed.”
Serving alongside Dr. Stephenson are newly appointed members, Florida Rep. Alex Rizo, Megan Crombie from Florida State University School, and chancellor and founder of Keiser University and Southeastern University, Arthur Keiser.
Futures Forward
Futures Forward is a camp for rising 9th – 12th grade students that develop entrepreneurship mindset, leadership skills and hands-on training in Career Technical Education (CTE) fields. Backed by the Entrepreneurship Education and Training (EET) grant, sessions are high-impact educational experiences scheduled across six campuses and centers. Students can participate in a variety of week-long classes from welding, culinary, business strategy to nursing, aviation and emergency medical services.
Camp Dates are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m-noon. The fee is $100 for session 1; June 6-9 and June 13 16; June 20- 23 and June 27- 30. An Entrepreneurship Fair is scheduled for June 30.
