United Way Emerald Coast’s Women United hosted their second EmpowHER Teen Mental Health Seminar presented by Eglin Federal Credit Union on Nov. 4 at Walton High School. This event is part of a series aimed to empower local teenagers with mental health resources and education. Women United selected Defuniak Springs as the location due to the high caseloads carried by counselors and the stigma surrounding mental health in the area.
The event featured interactive workshops and presentations from partner organizations donating their time to support the cause, including Yoga Studia 30A, Dog Harmony, and more. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and connect with others who going through similar struggles. Attendees ranged from 11-18 years of age, and traveled from across Okaloosa and Walton counties to participate, with 89% reporting that the seminar positively impacted their self-worth, self-esteem, confidence and mental health.
